This patch is for the Japanese localization of NATSUMEs Mitsume ga Tooru game for the MSX home computer. It translates the game to English and Russian. The context and meaning of the original Japanese is maintained, but grammar, spelling, and expressions are adapted for English and Russian speakers.

After the patch release, Armando Perez Abad added a very useful SAVE/LOAD feature and some more very cool enhancements. Please check provided by Armando SAVE/LOAD section of this readme file for more details.

You can use the online IPS Rom Patcher https://www.marcrobledo.com/RomPatcher.js or any other IPS patcher tool.

There are two different versions of rom that exist on the internet. 

Original ROM with 8K ASCII Mapper.

1.- So what

This is a ROM version of the 1989 NATSUME game 'Mitsume ga Tooru' with 2021 english
translation (https://mitsumegatoo.ru) patch with some enhacements:
    
    [] Disk SAVE/LOAD: This is a very hard game and it may take too long to
    finish without any additional aid. Savestate will help you enjoy it.

    [] <SHIFT> Key as TRIGGER 1 (as SPACE / Joy TRIGGER#1).
       
    [] <HOME> (boot) selects a special MSX2 palette.

    [] <SELECT> switch HZ


This is a KONAMI4 mapper ROM. This is *important* because some flash loaders
won't identify the mapper. 

WARNING: old save states are not compatible with this version. Remove previous
MITSUME.DAT.


2.- What you need

[] MSX 64k RAM: You can run the game but you won't be able to use the SAVE/LOAD feature.

[] DISK DRIVE: You will enjoy the extended SAVE/LOAD feature!

[] Flash device to run ROMs (such as LPE Flash, MegaFlash...)



3.- Loading and saving

The game saves to and loads from a file called "MITSUME.DAT".

This file will be saved to or loaded from default drive and/or current path.


[] KEYS:

    <F2>: SAVE game "snapshot". Saves state to MITSUME.DAT file.
	
    <F4>: LOAD state from MITSUME.DAT file.

    <RETURN>: Go ahead with save or load.

    <ESC>: Cancel.

    <F1>: Avoid game boot.  

    <HOME> (boot) selects the special MSX2 palette.

    <SELECT> switch HZ
	
	
	
[] Saving TIPS:

    - Make sure you have inserted a disk and it's write-enabled.

    - Press <F2>. Game will stop and edges will turn RED

    - Maybe you want to abort. Just press <ESC>. The game will resume.

    - When you are sure you want to save, press <RETURN>.

    - Edges will turn GREEN during saving process, returning to black when it's
      done and back to the game.




[] Loading TIPS:
    
    - Make sure you have inserted the disk containing MITSUME.DAT file or that you
      are in the actual path (DOS2).

    - Press <F4>. Game will stop and the edges will turn BLUE.

    - Maybe you want to abort. Just press <ESC>. The game will resume.

    - When you are sure you want to load, press <RETURN>.

    - Edges will turn GREEN during loading process, returning to black when it's
      done and back to the game (at the point you previously saved)
     



4.- MSX-DOS 1 

No xtras needed to use the SAVE/LOAD feature under DOS1.




5.- MSX-DOS 2

You can use DOS2 and massive storage devices (LPESD, Sunrise IDE, MegaSCSI,
MegaFlash...) to save/load.

However, you'll have to avoid game boot and allow these devices to initialize so
they are ready to use.

Once you are in the actual path run the ROM (e.g. OPF /X).


In order to make things easier, you can PRESS <F1> to prevent game from booting
(just LPE/Megaflash users: those who own a MegaflashSCC+/MegaflashSCCSD+ please
keep on reading for further info).




Now a few examples while using DOS2/storage interfaces:

[] MegaFlash (no game inside)

- Boot your DOS2
- Go to drive and directory where the program is
- OPF MITSU-ED.ROM /K4 /X
- You'll be able to save/load (file MITSUME.DAT will be saved into the path where
  you are)

[] MegaFlashSCC+ (no game inside)

- Boot your DOS2
- Go to drive and directory where the program is
- OPF MITSU-ED.ROM /X
- You'll be able to save/load (file MITSUME.DAT will be saved into the path where
  you are)


[] The game is already inside your flash-rom device

- Turn on your MSX and keep <F1> pressed while booting if you are using a LPE or
  Megaflash.  ** If you use MegaflashSCC+ or MegaflashSCCSD+ you must press your
  previously configured key to avoid boot since their software won't let you run
  the game if you boot with F1 mode. **
- DOS2 will run
- Go to drive and directory where the program is
- OPF /X (MegaFlash) or OPFX /X (MegaFlashSCC+)
- You'll be able to save/load (file MITSUME.DAT will be saved into the path where
  you are)


[] MegaFlashSCC+ and/or Nestor 2.1.0 or higher

Since Nestor 2.1 you don't need skip boot to play with your massive interface
device (SD card or similar). If your first device logic unit (A:) is FAT12
formatted you can avoid the previous step. The game will store the data in your
A: drive as usual. 


6.- ERRORS

The game will crash:

[] if there is NOT disk to save to or to load from
[] if it tries to load and MITSUME.DAT file doesn't exist
[] if it tries to save and the disk is write-protected

That's why you should check this stuff yourself (disk/write-enabled/path/file).
